Documentos

  • Maternity notes or hospital paperwork Keep them at the top of the bag so they are not unpacked at reception.
  • Photo ID and insurance card Add any pre-registration papers the hospital asked for.
  • Medication list and regular medication Use original packaging and bring enough for an unexpected longer stay.

Birthing parent

  • Phone and long charging cable Hospital sockets are rarely where you want them.
  • Loose nightdress or oversized T-shirt Choose something you do not mind washing hard afterwards.
  • Warm socks and slip-on shoes Useful for cold rooms and short walks around the ward.
  • Hair ties, lip balm, and face wipes Small comfort items that are annoying to ask someone to find later.
  • Water bottle with a straw Easier to use when sitting, lying down, or holding the baby.
  • Toiletry bag and dark towel Hospitals may provide basics, but your own shower kit helps.
  • Maternity pads and comfortable underwear Pack more than you think; hospital supplies vary.
  • Nursing bra or soft vest Pick something comfortable whether or not you plan to breastfeed.
  • Loose going-home clothes Maternity leggings, a soft dress, or anything comfortable over a tender stomach.

Partner or support person

  • Change of clothes Labour can run long, and support people rarely get a proper reset.
  • Toothbrush, deodorant, and any medication
  • Snacks and a refillable drink Cafes close, vending machines fail, and leaving the room may not be convenient.
  • Charger, headphones, and wallet Include parking payment or taxi fare if that applies.

Baby

  • Newborn sleepsuits Pack a few sizes if you are not sure what will fit.
  • Vests, hat, and socks Small layers are easier than one outfit that has to be perfect.
  • Newborn nappies and wipes Some hospitals provide them, but not all and not always enough.
  • Muslins and receiving blanket Pack at least one spare for the journey home.

Going home

  • Weather-appropriate going-home outfit Avoid bulky coats in the car seat; use layers and a blanket instead.
  • Fitted infant car seat They will not let you leave by car without a correctly fitted seat.

Qué incluir

  • Documentos y medicación.
  • Cargadores, ropa cómoda y básicos de aseo.
  • Comida y apoyo para el acompañante.
  • Ropa, pañales y mantas para el bebé.
  • Silla o plan para volver a casa.
